Miles Dewey Davis III was an American trumpeter considered as one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.
Being very popular for his specific trumpet playing technique, Davis determined the sounds of different jazz styles. For his almost half a century career he changed the sounding style of his band being always in search for new musical solutions and crafting an array of jazz styles.
Miles Davis left an imprint on almost all musical cultures of the twentieth century from funk and be-bop to rock and ambient. Davis was at the forefront of several major jazz music developments like jazz fusion, cool jazz and modal jazz. The Pulitzer Prize winner Duke Ellington called him "the Picasso of Jazz, the invisible art” recognizing his interests and talents.
Despite the addiction to drugs and health problems Davis went on giving concerts up to his death covering up his disease.
