Horst Bienek – German writer, poet and playwright, winner of many national awards.
When he was 21, he was arrested by NKVD and sentenced to 25 years of labour. Five years later, when he was released as the result of an amnesty, he started his literature career and became one the famous German poets and writers.
He died in 1990 as a result of the AIDS consequences, and a year later the prize named in his honor was established in Germany.
