Having spent two months in the jail I was taken to the women´s colony. I was a bit scared, but having passed the two -month course in the jail, I was already brave enough.  I was a bit scared, but having passed the two -month course, I was already brave enough. The colony shocked me by its darkness. Everyone was wearing black clothes, white kerchieves and labels with the names, terms of imprisonment and the date of release from prison.  The uniform was a must: the white shirt with blue dots, black sundress, black jacket and black boots. There was no my size, and they gave me only those that were at the wearhouse, or perhaps what just took randomly. Basically, I looked like a village girl.

I was also shocked by the huge barracks I was supposed to live in. There were three two storeyed barracks at the terriotry. They were huge, with two rows of two- staired beds, joint in pairs and 120 people living all together. The first part of people was working during the daytime, and the second one at night.

I met Irma in the jail. My husband told me about her. She was a girldfriend of our neighbor, Slavik. I was sent to her right after the arrival. It was her third term and by the moment, when we met, she already spent a year and a half there. She was also an addict and she sort of initiated me into the life in the colony and all their rules. She also helped me to resew my clothes, so I looked like a woman.

The worst and the hardest thing for me were shakes1 at that time. I was always supported in the jail by products and etc, and I was taken from there unexpectedly, therefore didn´t manage to get something. I was really sick, but there was nothing but the tea in the jail. Well, there were pills "diphenhydramine and Elenium. I mean some crap and nothing else. Without opium, I started using it for the whole month, in order to blur my mind, so I would forget about the pain at least for a while. I took so many of them at a time. Irma took care of that.

Then, I finally received opium. We agreed with the border soldieres and they threw it over the fence at the appointed hour. I guess, there were around 3 or 4 people, who used to inject at large, so the whole remaining term I was getting high with Irma.

The only thing that was really in need in the colony was tea. It was equivalent to finding drugs, and if more than 50 grams were found during the search, the suspect was placed to the DC2 for 10-15 days. The tea was sold illegaly. 50 grams were measured by the empty pots from the teeth powder. It was the only thing that gave us energy. The food was awful and the prisoner could receive the five-kilo package only after having spent the half of the term in the colony.

There was a sewing department in the colony. We sewed tents and canvas gloves. Of course, I was never taught how to sew or whatever, and the daily rate of the working was equivalent to 50 grams of tea. The rules were really strict. If you don´t keep up with the daily rate, you will be placed to the isolator. I was saved by the fact that I had money, so was basically able to buy the labor rate. Anyways, to go for work was a must.

We had checks twice per day. We were gathered at the ground and checked by the roll calling. No matter what the weather was, we had to stand for an hour and a half.

Later, I learned that love between women was flourishing. Yeah, indeed. I´ve never seen, if a man was ever loved and suffered so much about. In the case of cheeting, many of them commited crimes and suicides. I didn't understand that , since I've never heard about that before. Only when I was on my second term, I realized and understood why it actually happened, and knew all the details.

The entire term I spent being asleep after using pills and other poisonous crap, and didn't even notice how the time to release had come.

1. Shakes - withdrawals
2. DC - the disciplinary cell(isolator) in the colony
