New study by Lancaster University (UK), Kings Health Partners and the Social Fund, St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust reports that party people are no longer interested in legal drugs.
Poll results of 313 people from London nightclubs show that methadone was and remains the most widely abused drug among young people hanging out in clubs, despite the fact that it was banned in 2010.
Most of the respondents (66%) admitted that they had previously tried new legal narcotic drugs. However, 53% used methadone during last month, although it is punishable by imprisonment up to 7 years. “Legal high” or legal drugs were popular only among 36% of survey participants.
" We are seeing a pattern of differentiated demand for drugs -- just because drugs are for sale doesn't necessarily mean that people are buying them”, Dr Fiona Measham from Lancaster University says.
This study may be an argument in favor of changing the current UK drug policy.
