A number of major drug-related crimes were uncovered in Tatarstan during the raid carried out under the "Mac" operation. The operation was organized by the local branch of the Federal Drug Control Service to detect the illegal narcotic plantations. As a result of the operation, department employees detained citizen living in the village Kamskie Polyanay. At the time of the arrest he was carrying a large bundle of marijuana. During questioning, it became clear that he purchased the drug near the town of Almetyevsk.
Narcotics police found there a normal-looking family of immigrants from Tajikistan, who built a primitive shelter and cultivated cannabis. Plantation occupied a very large area.
Police officers were quite surprised by the scale of the plantations and of the "warehouse" where the family kept dried leaves and seeds of hemp. During the search, officers confiscated more than 1 kg of marijuana. Overall 560 cannabis plants were growing outsite.
Mother of the family, was the only person found in the house. She said that men (father and three sons, the youngest of which is 16 years old) went to work. However, it became known that they had gone to cultivate cannabis to another farm, also owned by the same family, with about 600 plants.
44-year-old father of the family have been arrested shortly after. Criminal investigation on cultivation, storage and distribution of narcotic drugs on a large scale was opened. The detainees might be sentenced for up to 20 years in prison
