25.07.2012

The problem of illegal drug trafficking and drug trade is very urgent in China. The only adequate measure of resisting the wave of drug trade is radical increasing legislative pressure as to drug-related crimes.

So, if a drug mule was arrested having more than 50 g of heroin, he or she is sentenced to death. It’s the only punishment for such criminals to expect. Only pregnant women, nursing mothers having babies younger than 6 months old and teenagers younger than 14 years old can be pardoned.

Despite the fact that the official statistics of death sentences is kept secret in China, many experts believe that Chinese authorities are seriously concerned with softening sanctions for such type of crimes.

Chinese experts also keep the record of the other statistics: with ethnos residing in China “contributes” most to the drug business development. So, the Uygur Diaspora turned out to be the country’s major drug dealers. According to the present data, approximately 20,000-25,000 people of Uygur origin are involved into pushing drugs, and over 100, 000 people derive their incomes from drug trade.
