Recently the Los Angeles City Council unanimously made a decision to close all the outlets of marijuana distribution for medical purposes. The secret voting was taken after the Mayor, Chief of Police and the City Attorney demanded to impose restrictions on marijuana sale.
At present, there are 762 drug dispensaries in the city. According to the new law, they all are to be closed. However, marijuana use is not banned. Patients in need of the drug will be allowed to cultivate limited amount of marijuana at home.
According to a member of the Los Angeles City Council, such measures were necessary due to increasingly frequent cases when marijuana was sold to recreational users on medical pretexts using fake prescriptions. The city council’s decision caused a wave of protest. However, police managed to stabilize the situation quickly.
