Recently Chen Xiao Xin, 48, was arrested and charged with drug trade at the airport of Beijing, China. When he was searched, police found approximately 365 g of heroin in his stomach. The drug was prepacked in small hermetically sealed capsules.
During the trial, the drug mule pleaded guilty. He chose the simplest and, as he believed, the most reliable way of drug transportation. He didn’t think of the danger he made himself liable to.
Chen Xiao Xin explained that his poor health and necessity to earn a big amount of money to pay for treatment had compelled him to be involved in the drug trade. Besides, he said, legal rough labour was above his strength.
The judge tempered justice with mercy and, taking into consideration the suspect’s diseases, gave him a life sentence. It was assignment of lighter punishment than provided for by law. Otherwise, he would be sentenced to death by firing squad.
