Estonian justice minister’s brother is condemned for drug trade

22.08.2012

Today the court of Harius district convicted Mihkel Mihal, a brother of Cristen Mihal, the minister of justice of Estonia, for illegal drug trade. He received two years of suspended sentence.

The court stated that in 2011 Mihal repeated bought large consignments of cannabis from an unknown; then, he used to keep the drugs in his flat and in his car. Later he handed the drugs to other people. However, the court failed to find out if Mihal distributed the drugs free of charge or he used to sell them to get profit.

The brother of the Estonian minister had no criminal charges pending against him before. Minister Cristen Mihal mentioned him in his interview as “a clever young man who is good at hard sciences”.
