“Design drug distribution is increasing in Russia”, Vasiliy Yurchenko, the head of the Moscow Department of Federal Drug Control Service, said at a recent news conference.
He explained that the term “designer drugs” refers to new synthetic substances which are structural analogues of banned drug preparations and psychotropic agents, but they are not added to the list of substances controlled by the Federal Drug Control Service.
“Such substances are produced by changing the chemical formula of drugs”, Yurchenko added. “In fact, a new substance appears. It’s not registered as a banned substance yet, but it effects human organism the same way as popular drugs”.
The official suggested to enable the Federal Drug Control Service to ban temporarily all new psychotropic agents before they pass a test and are approved by relevant experts, not waiting for the moment when they are officially registered as banned substances.
At the moment, the FDCS is unable to get to grips with the situation. So, designer drugs actively conquer the market.
