The pilot project starts in Toulouse, France, within the framework of which two centers “Intermed” were opened where drug addicts can get help,. It is remarkable that both organizations locate in the most center of historical part of the city.
The amount of centers’ visitors achieves 30 people a day. Some of the drug addicts come back again during the day. The main contingent are middle-aged males, for females it is offered certain time – every Friday in the afternoon. The head of center Ethien Norman explains it by necessity to secure women from the meetings with male drug addicts.
At the centers “Intermed” drug addicts can take a shower, wash clothes and get medical services. Moreover, they can take here sterile syringes, condoms and napkins. Some of the drug addicts bring here used syringes for utilization.
There are only two hard prohibitions: no drugs and alcohol, but some staff members declare for necessity to create “rooms for injections” inside the centers. “It will allow to decrease amount of get infected of AIDs and overdoses, also to decrease the level of criminality” – added Ethien Norman.
