The U.S. Army: Alcohol and Drug Addiction threaten the defense capacity of the country

21.09.2012

The U.S. Ministry of Defense ordered the thorough research among the army participants, results of which shocked many experts. Thus, it was revealed that alcoholism and drug addictions among other officers took a real disaster scale, seriously threatening the defense capacity of the United States.

The non-commercial organization “Institute of Medicine” was authorized by the Congress to hold tests among the US forces at the territories of Iraq and Afghanistan, which have shown that every fourth soldier has serious problems with alcohol and also abuses the prescribed psychotropic substances. It is worth mentioning that addiction from the last one has increased from 2 to 11 % for the last 6 observations.

Based on the results of the research the “Institute of medicine” has worked out a list of recommendations for the improvement of the situation with addictions in the U.S. army, among which is the change of the medical insurance, which hence will cover the treatment of alcohol and drug addictions, and also the strict restriction on alcohol sale at the military bases.

In addition the anonymous treatment of addictions is expected, whereas the information about it has already been passed to the command.
