24.10.2012

In the recent interview with the South American Press, Juan Carlos Pinzón, the Minister of Defense of Columbia, shared the official statistics according to which the insurgent Army of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) annually earns at least $ 3.5 billion on cocaine trade.

“In total around 350 tons of cocaine are produced in Columbia, two thirds of which in any case go through the FARC,- the minister stated. – The common price for the produced cocaine is around 6-7 milliards of dollars, from 2,4 to 3,5 of which are owned by the FARC rebels."

It’s worth mentioning that for 50 years already FARC is fighting with the authorities of the country for the creation of the so called “New Columbia”, where the social equality and justice would dominate. The number of members of the organization, which the U.S. and Europe consider as a terroristic one, is about 8000 people, which is in 2.5 times less than in 2000.
