The Chechen Interior Ministry Accused the Famous Online Encyclopedia In the Promotion of Drugs

17.01.2013

Encyclopedia of Internet folklore «Lurkomore», known for its satirical reflection to modern mass culture phenomena, was persecuted by the Chechen law enforcement agencies. The police requested the prosecution to block access to site containing, in their opinion, the promotion of drugs and suicide.

According to the law "On Countering Extremist Activity" and "The protection of children from information harmful to their health and development" Center for combating extremism under the Chechen Interior Ministry found web-site materials illegal. It is difficult to say what security officers found as “extremist” in a well-known encyclopedia’s texts, but in a message posted on the website the Chechen Interior Ministry said that they «detailed and promoted methods of suicide and production of narcotic and psychotropic substances, its price list, etc.”

It should be noticed, that the last point completely baffled. Obviously, under the "price list" ministry officials whose job is to work with information, mean precursors. In this case, the level of their literacy and professionalism speaks for itself.
